80-year-old woman dies in fire in Ogun

An 80-year-old woman identified as Mariam Salako has died in a fire outbreak in Ifelodun Agoka area of ​​Abeokuta.

Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the fire occurred at about 1am on Saturday.

Odutola noted that while the woman living in the building died, one Baba Ali, whose age is yet to be established, was rescued through a window by members of the community.

She noted that the cause of the fire was still unknown and that the quick response of the Ogun State Fire Service brought the fire under control.

She said: “Around 1am, an emergency call was made about a building on fire, located in Ifelodun Ago Ka area No. 28 in Abeokuta.

The area commander promptly led a team of police officers to the location while the fire brigade was called for assistance. The Ogun State Fire Service responded quickly and managed to control the fire.

“Unfortunately, an elderly woman, Mariam Salako, 80 years old, who lived in the building, could not escape and died in the fire incident.”

Odutola stated that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary.
