Israel's horrific attack leaves no refuge in Jabalia

This week, Israel marked the occasion of Antony Blinken’s visit with a new wave of horrific violence in Gaza. On Thursday evening, Israeli forces bombed and razed thirteen houses in the Jabalia refugee camp. which left more than 150 Palestinians deadwhile there have been hundreds more reported injured, missing or captured under rubble. No one can reach or help the victims – access for civil defense, rescuers, medics, hospitals, ambulances and even media is blockedwith concerns that limiting reporting could be aimed at preventing coverage of atrocities.

It was a night of endless horror in Gaza. Entire families were slaughtered. Most of the victims were childrenincluding eleven children who were burned alive in Al-Maghazi refugee camp after israeli forces a youth club taking care of children. Israel too bombed another school hosting children in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least seventeen people, most of them children. In Khan Younis, the Israeli Army (IDF) wiped out fifteen members of the Farra family. most of whom are children.

Laila el-Haddad, the Gaza-born author who once accompanied Anthony Bourdain in Gaza, wrote: “Many of you have seen the photo of these beautiful birds of heaven, which were slaughtered by Israel last night in Khan Younis with our American weapons and tax dollars. They were my cousins on my mother’s side. Don’t you dare talk to me about Kamala Harris or blame us for her loss.

According to Save the Children more than twenty thousand children have been killed, buried under rubble or in mass graves, detained, lost or disappeared during Israel’s ongoing war of genocide in Gaza.

Child survivors hardly fare much better. A heartbreaking videocreated by Palestinian journalist Mohammad Magadli, it shows a displaced orphan girl in Gaza walking for miles barefoot while carrying her injured sister on her back. “I’m tired,” she tells the reporter. “I’ve been wearing her for an hour and now I can’t do that anymore.”

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has done just that warned that children in Gaza are dying in excruciating pain as a result of Israel’s deadly and increasingly intense blockade. UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said,

After more than a year of efforts to shed light on the atrocities committed against children in Gaza, THIS is perhaps the most devastating reality: children – deeply ill children – are being denied the medical care that could save them in Gaza, and then prevented from going to places where help awaits.

In northern Gaza, Al Jazeera reports that the Israeli army has raids and the occupied Kamal Adwan Hospital, where hundreds of medics, injured patients and displaced families are sheltering. Film material shows the hospital director, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiyeh, and other doctors in their white coats raising their hands and pleading for safety.

As other videos and testimonies show, so did the Israeli forces rounded up dozens of citizens from the hospital, forcing them to do so take off their clothes – their fate remains unknown. Dr. Abu Safiyeh himself appears to belong to the group kidnapped. On Saturday, after Dr. Abu Safiyeh refused to evacuate the hospital, Israeli soldiers spoke up killed his son Ibrahim. In a video shared by journalist Anas al-Sharif, Dr. Abu Safiyeh, still in his medical gown, leads a heartbreaking farewell prayer for his son. Another video shows Ibrahim’s mother saying goodbye to her son and wept over his body.

Some Israeli soldiers have posted messages on social media photos of Palestinian civilians used as human shields. One IDF soldier, interviewed by CNNshared that he can no longer eat meat bulldozed and ran over hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza, dead and alive, until their bodies ‘spouted out’. (The CNN report portraying IDF war criminals as traumatized victimsmarks a new low for the American mainstream media and its shameless attempts to whitewash Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.)

Meanwhile, violent rhetoric in Israel continues to escalate. ‘I just think we should kill them all. . . and that’s it,” a young Israeli settler recently told Sky News on air. In one crazy eulogy in Israel this week the brother of an Israeli soldier was killed in southern Lebanon, said proudly: “You entered Gaza to take revenge. As many women as possible, children, everyone you saw – this is what you wanted.”

The horrors continue unabated women and children separation, the forced displacement of thousands of civilians, the brutal attack on Gaza last working hospitaland the continued blocking of aid. Thousands of civilians have fled Jabalia, leaving bodies behind lying on the street. Videos taken in northern Gaza show Israeli soldiers expelling families at gunpoint.

Volker Türk, the United Nations human rights chief, has done so warned that the “darkest moment” is unfolding in northern Gaza: “Right now, the Israeli army is subjecting an entire population to bombings, sieges and the risk of starvation. It is unimaginable that the situation is deteriorating day by day.” He further explained this

The Israeli government’s policies and practices in northern Gaza threaten to empty the area of all Palestinians. We are confronted with what could amount to atrocities, which may also extend to crimes against humanity. These are universally accepted and binding standards designed to preserve the bare minimum of humanity.

This is ethnic cleansing, carried out in broad daylight. Jewish Voice for Peace has a statement comparing Israeli crimes in Gaza to the Holocaust, while Israel-based rights group B’Tselem published a statement condemning “Israel’s ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza.”

Israel makes no secret of its plans in Gaza. According to Israeli forces, the IDF has a “General plan” in northern Gaza – a blueprint for the famine and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians there. Israeli leaders are to cling policy conferences among the slogan: “Conquer, kick out, resettle.” In one event Attended by several Knesset members from Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, along with Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israeli settler leader Daniella Weiss declared that “Gaza Arabs have lost the right to be here.” While Israeli officials do not deny this policy of deliberate famine of the Palestinians in Gaza, Antony Blinken, who plays Netanyahu’s lawyer, insists that Israel is not implementing the General Plan.

These actions, committed during Blinken’s visit to Israel, are being carried out with American blessing. While the Joe Biden administration has done that warned that Israel is implementing a “policy of famine” in Gaza – which is expected to “almost threefold‘hunger levels that are already fatal children – it has done nothing to rein in its genocidal partner. Instead, the US government has squandered tens of billions of tax dollars on military aid to Israel, aid that has reached a fever pitch. unprecedented record since last year.

In a tragic irony, President Biden gave a speech this week in which he delivered a speech historical apology to Indians for past injustices. Meanwhile, Biden continues to weaponize and finance the genocide of the century. During the event, a woman sits in the crowd asked Biden: “How can you apologize for a genocide when you’re committing a genocide in Gaza?”

The oppressed find little comfort in the prospect of historical justice—the idea that future historians or leaders might look more kindly on their fate. Palestinians, like the Indians before them, want justice nowon this earth, during their lifetime, while they are still alive and have the power to witness it.
