A shooting at a homeless camp in Minneapolis has left one dead and two injured

Minneapolis police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead and two others injured at a homeless encampment Saturday morning.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting near 21st Street East and 15th Avenue South at a homeless encampment at 4:42 a.m.

When they arrived, officers discovered that three men had been injured by gunfire; all three were transported to hospital. However, one person later died upon arrival.

At this time, police say they are investigating three possible suspects who may have left the area after the shooting.

Police say they are still working to determine the connection of the three men shot to the camp.

“Once again, a tragedy has occurred at a homeless encampment, and all three injured people are known to law enforcement,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “Today’s injured people are part of the at-risk population in homeless camps. They are suspects, witnesses and victims of crimes. The level of crime, drug use and other issues associated with encampments continue to create very unsafe conditions, which we are working to address with our partners.”

No arrests have been made at this time.
