CHB cancels the allocation of 50 homes due to unpaid rent

Times News Network
Chandigarh: Taking action against rent defaulters, Chandigarh Housing council (CHB) canceled allotment of 50 houses in Sector 49, Ram Darbar, Sector 38 and Industrial Area.
These apartments have been allocated under the Small Flats Scheme, for which monthly license fees are payable. The allotment of one small flat in Sector 49 has been cancelled, that of 28 in Ram Darbar, six in Sector 49, four in Sector 38W and one in Industrial Area Phase 1.
In addition to canceling the allocation, CHB has asked the immigrants involved to transfer ownership of the apartments to the board within 30 days.
“If no one transfers possession of the flat within this period, the process of vacating the flat will begin,” an official said.
Since 2018-2019, more than ten notices have been sent to the flats, asking those assigned to pay the outstanding dues. “When the fee was still not paid, the opportunity was offered for a new hearing in September.
However, most allottees neither came nor paid their contributions.
As a result, notices were issued regarding cancellation of allotments,” the official said.
Under the small apartment scheme, the license fee must be paid no later than the tenth day of each month. If the assignee fails to deposit the license fee despite repeated notifications, the firm assignment may be canceled. CHB has to recover over Rs 45 crore from allottees due to this fact unpaid rent. Action will be taken against many more people in the coming days, the official said.
