Trump reminisces about campaign era during Pa. rally: ‘I will never forget it’

Governor Tim Walz spoke Saturday afternoon at a “Native Americans for Harris-Walz” early voting rally in Window Rock, Arizona, a remote location in the Navajo Nation.

According to the campaign, Walz’s visit marks the first time a presidential candidate has gone to the Navajo Nation this cycle.

“We are here because we take no vote for granted, and we are here to show respect to the Navajo Nation and earn your vote. Now I will tell you that we run as if everything is on the line, because everything is on the line,” he said.

Walz said that given the closeness of these elections, especially in the state of Arizona, indigenous votes could be the deciding factor for the Democratic ticket.

“I probably think we win this whole thing because of the work that’s been done here, the work that’s been done on the nation, and we put Kamala Harris in the White House,” Walz said.

Walz claimed that Donald Trump failed to support Native Americans during his time in office and specifically lambasted Trump for his meeting with families of Navajo war veterans at the White House in 2017.

The event took place in front of an image of Andrew Jackson, the president who signed legislation that ultimately led to the “Trail of Tears.”

“I don’t know if he knows his history well enough to know what he was doing, but I can guarantee you damn well that the people around him knew the insult they were doing to Indian country by having those heroes stand in front of that portrait. Walz said.

Walz emphasized how his and Harris’ economic policies would boost tribal entrepreneurs and businesses and improve their health care options.

“I want to be clear and make sure you hear it and the country hears it. Kamala Harris and I recognize the promises this country has made to Indigenous peoples. We will protect and strengthen the bonds between our nations and our trust and treaty obligations,” he said.
