Elon Musk worked ‘illegally’ in the US at the start of his career: report

Washington:

Elon Musk, a strong critic of illegal immigrants and a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, who for years has portrayed migrants as invaders and criminals, worked “illegally” in the United States during the early part of his career. reported The Washington Post.

According to the report, Musk, a native of South Africa, dropped out of Stanford University in 1995 to work on his debut company, Zip2, for four years before selling it for about $300 million. During this time he worked without proper authorization.

Two of Musk’s former colleagues also said Musk received his U.S. work permit around 1997, the report said.

Muskas a foreign student in the US, couldn’t have dropped out of school to build a business by the rules.

Overstaying the validity of a student visa is common in most cases, but it still remains illegal, the Post said.

Despite this, Musk has always maintained that the time it took him from student to entrepreneur is a “legal gray area.”

The report also cited a 2020 podcast in which Musk had said he was in the US legally but was supposed to be doing student work. “I was allowed to do work in support of whatever,” he said.

Several of the Tesla and SpaceX boss’s recent posts on social media platforms have focused on immigration and voter fraud, with White House candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris accused of “importing voters” via illegal immigrants. Last week, he also compared the US-Mexico border – where several Mexican immigrants enter America – to a “zombie apocalypse.”
