The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded last week to a vehicle abandoned in the middle of the roadway, a cat tied to a power line, a threatened crime at the library and multiple reports of fraud.

The following incidents occurred between Monday, October 14 and Sunday, October 20, according to the weekly log of notable calls published by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, October 14, employees of the Summit County Library in Frisco reported an argument between two men. When the verbal argument between the two ended, staff reported hearing what sounded like a bullet being put into a firearm. Library staff evacuated everyone from the building and no shots were fired. The suspect left the scene. Officers investigated, spoke with the other man and witnesses and reportedly found probable cause for several crimes. Officers found the man nearby and were able to take him into custody without any problems. The man had a gun in his possession and was charged with numerous crimes, including menacing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Also Monday, officers received a report from a man who claimed his ex-girlfriend’s father tried to break into his apartment and pointed a gun at him. Law enforcement officers on the scene quickly determined that the man was hallucinating. Officers requested a medical response and the man told doctors he was hallucinating because he had taken a high dose of prescription medication. Nothing criminal was found and the man was released to a family member.

On Tuesday, October 15, a man found his very drunk neighbor in the grass outside his apartment. The neighbor could not stand and kept falling when he tried to get up. Officers requested a medical response and due to the man’s level of intoxication, he was transported to St. Anthony Summit Hospital.

On Wednesday, October 16, officers received a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of Tiger Road with no lights, causing a hazard. Officers attempted several times to contact the vehicle’s owner without success and had the vehicle towed.

Also Wednesday, a Wildernest man paid an unknown person on Facebook $2,000 for sports tickets, which ultimately turned out to be fraudulent. An officer has taken a report and an investigation is underway.

On Thursday, October 17, a man in unincorporated Breckenridge reported that two moose were stuck in a piece of playground equipment and he thought they needed help. Officers responded, but it turns out the elk were able to get out and move on once they were done with their fun.

On Saturday, October 19, a woman paid $2,000 for a Wildernest rental she found on Craigslist. She was scheduled to move into the unit the next day, but when she arrived she discovered the unit was already occupied and not available for rent. The woman, together with Apple Pay and Zelle, is trying to stop the payments made. An investigation is underway.

Also Saturday, animal control received a report of a cat stuck on a power line in Summit Cove. Animal control officers used a dog hammock as a blanket and wet food as bait and shouted at the cat to get it down, which they eventually did successfully. The cat was not chipped and was taken to the animal shelter.

On Sunday, October 20, a bus driver reported a combative passenger who was angry about an appointment he thought would not arrive on time due to a mechanical problem that delayed the bus’s departure. Law enforcement officials say the passenger verbally threatened to assault the driver, and a nearby security guard helped remove the passenger from the bus while waiting for emergency services. Before emergency responders arrived, the passenger tried to start a fight with the driver, but nothing physical happened, the Sheriff’s Office said. Officers arrived on scene and investigated before issuing the passenger a citation for harassment and unlawful conduct on public property.

Also last week, the Next Page Bookstore in Frisco donated four boxes of books to the Summit County Jail. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the company has regularly donated brand new books to those in custody in recent years.
