Taylor Swift excited fans during her Eras tour to spend Sabrina Timmerman with her on stage to perform an unexpected duet.

During a performance at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, October 26, Swift made the surprising revelation, with footage shared via X.

“I think I’m going to do something completely different tonight, which is sing a song that doesn’t belong to me, but to someone I really love, so I want to see how loud you can sing this song,” Swift, 34, teased the crowd. “It’s in my head and it would make me feel good if I knew that 65,000 other people had this song in their heads just like me.”

Swift then began singing the first verse Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” before taking a break.

Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter’s friendship has come a long way over the years. Before the pair became the best friends they are today, Carpenter was a longtime fan of Swift. Before releasing songs like “Nonsense” and “Espresso,” Carpenter posted covers of Swift’s songs on her YouTube page, including “Picture to Burn” and “White Horse.” (…)

“Oh, so you really love that song as much as I do? I know I’m on a tangent because I love my girlfriend and I’m so proud of Sabrina and the year she’s had,” Swift said. “This year she just left, just like her tour, you can’t get tickets for it, the album is consistently at number 1 and I’m just thinking, … is it okay if I call her and you can say Hi?”

Swift picked up her phone, called Carpenter, 25, and put her on speaker so the New Orleans crowd could hear.

“Hey, uh, I’m somewhere really loud. I’m performing in New Orleans. I am during the Eras tourSwift said to Carpenter. “So I just wanted to call you and say I sang a little bit of ‘Espresso’ and they sang every word so loud and I just wanted to say that we all love you so much. What are you doing? Why aren’t you here with us?

Carpenter responded by saying she felt like she was “on a rollercoaster”, adding: “Everyone is screaming so loudly, it’s amazing.”

Continuing the bit, Swift asked Carpenter how long it would take for her to “really come to the end.” The Girl meets world star replied, “It would probably take me five seconds.”

Together they took the stage and performed a mashup of Carpenter’s hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”, as well as Swift’s “Is It Over Now”, to the delight of fans.

After the performance, Swift encouraged the audience to applaud Carpenter.

“She had the day off, isn’t it strange that she came to sing with us? Will you give it up for Sabrina Carpenter? Swift said.
