A court in Dhaka today (October 27) sent former independent lawmaker lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman to jail after he was denied bail at the end of a five-day remand in an attempt to murder case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatuallh issued the order.

Although the suspect’s lawyer filed a request for bail, the prosecutor opposed it.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered him to be sent to jail, said Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim of Mirpur Model police station, who is also the investigation officer of the case.

Earlier on October 22, a Dhaka court remanded him to five-day police custody in the case filed at Mirpur Model police station.

Suman was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a student during the July-August student-led movement.

Before the arrest, lawyer Suman said on his verified Facebook account, “I’m going with the police. See you in court. Pray for me, everyone.”

Suman was elected as an independent candidate in controversial January 7 polls in Habiganj-4 constituency.
