26-year-old woman among two employees killed after air conditioner exploded at office in Raipur

A 48-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were killed and two others injured on Saturday when an air conditioner exploded in their office in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur. Police said the incident took place late in the evening on the second floor of a residential and commercial building near Mini Mata Chowk under Devendra Nagar police station.

The employees were working in the Automation Art Office at the time of the incident. The impact of the explosion was such that a window in the office broke and fell down. When they heard the sound of the explosion, employees from the nearby office came out and immediately alerted the police and fire brigade. After this, the police team arrived on site together with the fire brigade and ambulance and started the rescue operation.

According to a police officer, there was a lot of smoke when entering the building and the man and woman were unconscious. Both were immediately taken to hospital, where they died during treatment. The police officer said the two people rescued from the scene have been hospitalized.

In August, an 18-year-old man was killed and his friend injured when the outdoor unit of an air conditioner fell on them from the second floor of a building in Central Delhi. In the CCTV video of the incident that emerged online, Jitesh was seen sitting on a scooter in the Doriwalan area and talking to his friend Pranshu.

Suddenly, the air conditioner fell on them, injuring both of them. They were quickly rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Jitesh dead on arrival, while Pranshu was admitted for treatment. An FIR was registered under sections 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a police officer said.
