Trump vows at Pennsylvania rally to cut energy costs, lift LNG pause and ‘frack, frack, frack’

Former President Trump pledged Saturday to halve U.S. energy costs if re-elected, using oil and gas policy to create a sharp contrast with Kamala Harris in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania.

Trump spoke to voters at a rally in State College promised to lift the US pause at U.S. liquefied natural gas export terminals, are embracing fracking and otherwise undoing what he described as the “disastrous” energy policies enacted under the Biden administration.

“From day one of my new administration, I will end Kamala Harris’ war on energy in Pennsylvania,” Trump told the crowd. “And we will frack, frack, frack.”

Fracking, the process of using pressurized fluids to extract natural gas from shale rock, is a controversial technology and one that Harris previously promised to ban when he became president in 2019.

But fracking is necessary to access the vast gas reserves hidden in Pennsylvania. The state is not only a crucial battleground state with 19 electoral votes. It is also the second largest natural gas producer in the US

While Harris has repeatedly expressed her support for fracking on the campaign trail this election cycle, some Republicans and gas groups have sought further assurances from the campaign as Election Day approaches, citing the four years of mixed messages they saw under Biden.

In the absence of that clarity, Trump has tried to fill in the gaps in Harris’ policies himself.

Harris, he said Saturday, has been against fracking “her whole life.” She is against “anything that has to do with anything underground,” Trump told the crowd.

“She will build a windmill,” he said, “to kill all your birds.”

Trump blamed Harris for what he sees as the Biden administration’s failures in U.S. oil and gas production, including its excessive focus on electric vehicle production and production, the closure of aging power plants and the spike in energy priceswhich rose by as much as 50% in the Keystone State.

He described the U.S. natural gas export pause, which President Biden ordered in January, as “Kamala’s ban.”

During a second term, Trump promised, that would all change.

“Your energy prices will be halved within twelve months of January 20, when we take over,” he told the packed stands of supporters, who responded with loud applause.

Some waited in line for hours outside Pennsylvania’s Central Arena to hear Trump speak, long before the doors opened at noon, nearly six hours before he finally danced his way to the stage.

Several attendees said they had been waiting since dawn to see Trump, and the former commander-in-chief’s promises did not seem to disappoint them, if their cheering was any indication.

“We’re going to fix it very quickly,” Trump told the crowd. “Kamala broke it, and I will fix it.”

The Democrats, he said, “were waging a war on your Commonwealth like never before.”

“They have destroyed your steel mills, decimated your coal jobs, attacked your oil and gas jobs, and sold your manufacturing jobs to China and other foreign countries around the world.

“You’ll be back under the Trump administration.”

Trump vowed to address what he described as the Biden administration’s “disgusting failures” in the energy sector and beyond.

“This will be America’s golden age,” he said, “and every problem we face will be solved.”
