The Geneva council is divided on the location of the farmers market: downtown or on the lake?

The Geneva City Council debated moving the city’s farmers market to its former downtown location to boost pedestrian traffic.

Councilors argued this would attract more local residents and increase central business activity. The market currently operates at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, where it moved in 2018.

The Finger Lakes Times reported Saturday that economic development director David West warned against relocating the market, highlighting growth on the waterfront, with an average of 30 vendors per week and state funding tied to the current location.

Ultimately, the city council decided to investigate the possibilities for an additional presence in the center in the future.
