Latest Middle East: Iran’s Supreme Leader Responds to Israeli Attacks; dozens injured after truck crashes into bus stop | World news

Welcome back to our live coverage of developments in the Middle East.

The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza says at least 22 people were killed in Israeli attacks on the northern town of Beit Lahiya last night – more on that later.

We also bring you the latest on the aftermath of Israel’s attacks on military sites in Iran, as the focus shifts to how Tehran will respond – if at all.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghci suggested in a post on social media that a response is not off the table.

He said: “We fully reserve the right to respond appropriately to this aggression, which cannot be separated from Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the bloodshed in Lebanon.”

The Israeli military said the attacks were in response to “months of continued attacks by the regime in Iran against the State of Israel.”

According to Reuters news agency, satellite images appeared to show the Israeli attack on buildings used to mix ballistic missile fuel in Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted they had chosen targets in Iran based on their own interests and not according to “American dictates”, while Joe Biden said he hoped Israel’s attacks would end a cycle of escalation between the two parties.
