Our favorite photos from Michigan's win over Michigan State

ANN ARBOR – Michigan Football took home the Paul Bunyan Trophy on Saturday, bouncing back from a pair of road losses and defeating their in-state rival in a hard-fought game that ended in a short-lived brawl at midfield.

The Wolverines started Davis Warren at quarterback and returned to an early-season game plan in which they replaced Alex Orji for several run-oriented plays. Michigan State established an early lead with a long opening drive that put their rivals on the back foot, but on the Wolverines’ first foray into MSU territory in the final minutes of the half, Warren connected with Colston Loveland for Michigan’s first touchdown. Moments later, the Wolverines were in position for a field goal, giving them a 9-7 lead going into halftime.

Orji scrambled into the end zone on the opening drive of the second half to further extend Michigan’s lead. Sparty answered with a 46-yard field goal to make it a one-score game. Early in the fourth quarter, Michigan called a trick play with running back Donovan Edwards nailing a 23-yard pass to Loveland — the veteran is now 4-for-4 and for 131 yards and two touchdowns in his career at Michigan. Warren hit Loveland again for the two-point conversion that put Michigan up 24-10.

The Spartans answered with a lengthy drive that ended with quarterback Aiden Chiles completing a 20-yard pass to Nick Marsh. Trailing by seven points, Michigan State was in scoring position with four minutes left, but the Wolverines held off their rival in the red zone and ran down the clock.

As the final seconds of the game ticked away, Loveland and MSU defenseman Anthony Jones exchanged words and then headbutts, prompting both teams to rush to midfield for a shoving match. The players were quickly separated and coaches Sherrone Moore and Jonathan Smith shook hands before the Wolverines hoisted the trophy.
