In a fascinating blend of nature and technology, Kipsta has drawn inspiration from the ocean’s speed champion, the Mako shark, to create its latest Keepdry thermal base layer.

This nature-inspired approach reflects a broader trend in outdoor apparel, with brands turning to biomimicry and sustainable materials.

For example, Columbia has used Omni-Heat technology to reflect body heat, while The North Face’s FUTURELIGHT fabric, inspired by the movement of water vapor, provides durable waterproofing while promoting breathability in extreme environments.

The updated design of the Decathlon-backed Kipsta baselayer brings streamlined biomimetic principles to the fore, promising athletes of all kinds a new touch in comfort, warmth and durability.

At the brand’s conception center, designers sought to recreate the athletic prowess of the Mako shark, focusing on the creature’s unique characteristics: agility, speed and breathability.

As a result, the upper part of the Keepdry garment prioritizes breathability and resistance, while the middle part is made for high airflow.

The bottom section provides essential support and seamless stability, mimicking the smooth, fast-moving lines of the shark.

The Keepdry is made from 100% recycled polyester and produced regionally to reduce the ecological footprint.

Furthermore, the seamless construction not only minimizes friction, but also streamlines production for sustainability, in line with the company’s eco-friendly goals.

For example, Keepdry garments sold in Europe are made from materials sourced in Europe, while those sold in Asia are produced locally in China.

The latest Keepdry version is available in 13 colors for £17.99 (about $23.38 / AU$35.21) from Decathlon.
