Mother arrested for alleged sex trafficking of 15-year-old daughter

The mother of a 15-year-old girl, Eunice Asuelie, has been arrested by the Delta State Police for allegedly forcing her daughter, Esther, into sex trafficking.

According to human rights activist Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, Esther was taken to a hotel in Udu Local Government Area where she was handed over to a suspected sex trafficker.

However, Esther escaped and took refuge with the family of a classmate in Effurun.

“The young girl has since been released into the custody of the proprietress of Triumphal Model School in Effurun, Magareth Oghuvwu.

“This case highlights the ongoing problem of human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria,” Aghogho said.

Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed Asuelie’s detention on Saturday, saying: “The mother is in custody at the police headquarters and we are investigating the entire matter.”
