Israeli attacks on Gaza kill 22 people, while a truck ram near Tel Aviv kills one person

Israeli strikes on northern Gaza have killed at least 22 people, mostly women and children, Palestinian officials said on Sunday, as Israel’s offensive in the hard-hit and isolated area entered a third week and the UN secretary general announced the fate of Palestinians there called “unbearable.” Israel said it was targeting militants.

In another development, one person was killed and dozens were injured on Sunday when a truck struck a bus stop at a major intersection near Tel Aviv in central Israel, in what police said was a terrorist attack.

Israeli police said about 40 people were injured to varying degrees, some seriously, and taken to nearby hospitals.

The Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv said one of the victims succumbed to his injuries. The Nearly Sheba Medical Center said it was treating eight civilians and soldiers.

The attack, in which a truck rammed into a bus stop close to a military base, took place around 10 a.m., police said, noting that the driver — who had Israeli citizenship — was “neutralized” by gunfire from a nearby civilian .

“All lines of investigation are being investigated with an emphasis on the suspicion that this is a terrorist attack,” police said.
