Two teens wanted after police chase, suspected car theft in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department are searching for two teenagers wanted in connection with a police chase and alleged car theft.

According to police, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25.

Officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Doverwood Drive, near Scotland Avenue, for a “suspicious incident.”

After an anonymous tip, officers learned that there were individuals in the area who were “staging possible stolen vehicles.” When officers arrived, an anonymous complainant pointed out one of the vehicles, identified as a white Camry, driving by and leaving the area. Officers give chase. According to BRPD, the vehicle caught fire.

Three people in school uniforms got out of the car and ran away, police confirmed. One of the minor suspects was later arrested. After a perimeter was established, BRPD K9 responded when the other two teens were last seen walking over the fence into the Scotlandville High School campus.

The school was placed on lockdown for safety reasons while officers searched the area for the suspects. During the investigation, two minors were arrested for questioning; However, it was determined that there was not enough evidence at the time to charge the subjects.

According to law enforcement, the school was initially placed on lockdown for security reasons because the alleged suspects may have been involved in several other vehicle burglaries and car thefts. In one of the related cases, the suspects took the victim’s car and while driving away from the crime scene, the suspect shot once in the air as the victim chased them. The case is pending further investigation with two outstanding suspects at large.

The juvenile detainee was processed and charged with the following:

47:536 License plate switched

14:76.26 Theft of a motor vehicle

14:55 Aggravated criminal damage to property

14:108.1 Aggravated flight of officer

40:966 Simple possession of marijuana

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact BRPD or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867).
