Health facilities in Panyijiar County have run out of medicines

At least 16 health facilities in Panyijiar County, Unity State, have reported shortages of medicines.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj last weekend, County Health Director Peter Yoak Yap confirmed the shortage experienced over the past three months.

“All sixteen health facilities have been without medicines since August. We hope UNICEF will replenish supplies next week,” he said.

He added that the community was suffering from several diseases that could not be cured without the medicines.

Yap said UNICEF had promised medical supplies for the coming days in an email communication.

Nyak PHCC worker John Chuol said all health facilities had been experiencing shortages of medicines for months.

He added that the functioning of healthcare facilities was significantly hampered by the shortage of medicines.

Chuol appealed to the national government to intervene to save the many lives at risk. He said most health facilities risk closing if UNICEF supplies do not arrive soon.

Mary Nyaboth said the Panyijiar community had been in a difficult situation since August without the medical facilities.

She said the community could face more deaths if UNICEF were to further delay deliveries.
