Congress Must Act: American Security Depends on Border Security, Not Presidential Promises | Opinion

If your wife is anything like mine, she digs deep to discover the truth. She watches the news, listens to podcasts and reads a lot, always looking for facts. Like many Americans, she has realized that some in the media proclaim “truths” designed to serve the interests of an individual, an agenda, or an entity. Some even ask her not to believe her own eyes.

Nowhere is this phenomenon more evident than when it comes to border security.

Recently I came across one Washingtonpost article that repeated the tired claim: immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than American citizens. The purpose of the piece was to undermine Donald Trumppositions on illegal immigration. But the thing is, the claim itself is suspect at best, especially given the lack of reliable data in recent years. It’s a diversion, designed to distract you and make you doubt what you see with your own eyes.

The truth is clear: cAnd the enrichment of violent Mexican cartels? It should have been avoidable.

But because large parts of the mainstream media have convinced too many Americans not to believe what they see with their own eyes, all these tragedies have occurred – and at an alarming rate.

In recent weeks, polls have shown another shift in voter sentiment and who they will vote for in the presidential race as well as vote declines in swing states. Why? Because the spider loses its shine and people return to their own observations and experiences.

Americans are waking up to the facts: their dollar doesn’t stretch nearly as far as it did a few years ago. Crime in the cities is out of control. The world is becoming more dangerous by the day.

And yes, the southern border is wide open.

People are starting to realize that the lies are not coming from their own eyes, but from much of the mainstream media.

When it comes to border security, the solution is not complicated. It requires strong policies, and in the short term that will make a difference. But policy alone is not enough. If we rely solely on executive action, we are at the mercy of whoever occupies the Oval Office.

In recent years we have seen how dangerous that can be.

The longer-term solution must come Congress. We need good legislation that takes total control of border security out of the hands of a single president. This legislation should allow for the implementation of updated policies and ensure that our borders remain secure, regardless of which government is in power.

My wife, like many of you, has learned that the truth exists. She doesn’t have to rely on the mainstream media, which will push any story that improves their bottom line. Instead, she compares what she hears with what she sees with her own eyes.

And you can do the same: trust what you see, because your own eyes don’t lie to you.
