Trevon Diggs confronts reporter who questions his efforts in bizarre exchange

The Dallas Cowboys allowed 21 points to the San Francisco 49ers in the third quarter Sunday night football heading for another loss. They are now 3-4 on the season, which has somehow been even more Cowboys-y than normal, with Jerry Jones thinking he can do it firing people he can’t fireMike McCarthy’s job being in jeopardy and a number of other distractions.

Safety Trevon Diggs maintained that after refusing to talk to reporters in the locker room after the game, opting instead to confront reporter Mike Leslie with a pretty reasonable tweet. Diggs, who showed more fire against someone clicking away on a laptop than against an opponent, gave Leslie a clue about having his route questioned during a long George Kittle reception.

Here’s the entire exchange for dramatic reading purposes.

DIGGS: “That’s what you got from that? From that whole play, that’s what you got from that? You don’t know football. You can’t do anything I do. You can’t go out there and do nothing. Stay on your path, buddy .Stop trying, dog.”

LESLIE: “I’m just asking the question, Trevon,” Leslie said. “I mean, I’m glad you answered the question.”

DIGGS: “Is that what you got out of that whole piece? That’s what you got out of that whole piece? Is that what you got out of that whole piece?”

LESLIE: “We can talk about it more,” Leslie said.

DIGGS: “Talk about deez nuts.”

All of this hardly seems real, yet it’s on tape for all to see. The Cowboys, flirting with a complete freefall, lost another game to make salvaging the mess more difficult, and job 1 for a key player was to track down a reporter who dared to question this play.

And his ending was a “deez nuts” joke.

Things aren’t going well.
