Trump announces support for tax breaks for caregivers

Former President Donald Trump announced Sunday at a campaign rally in New York City that, if elected, he would support providing a tax credit for caregivers.

“I am announcing today a new policy that I will support a tax credit for caregivers who are caring for a parent or loved one,” Trump said at the event at Madison Square Garden. “About time they were recognized, right?”

It is not the first time that elderly care has been prioritized. At the July Republican National Convention, policy documents referenced Trump’s promises to strengthen Medicare and focus on home care for the elderly. USA today reported. Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told the newspaper that Trump, if elected, “will care for our seniors by shifting resources back to home care, eliminating the disincentives that lead to healthcare workforce shortages and supporting unpaid caregivers through of tax credits and less red tape.”

Both the Trump and Harris campaigns have sought the support of the “sandwich generation” of voters who are simultaneously caring for their parents and raising their children.

Earlier this month, during an appearance on ABC’s “The View,” Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to cover home health care after explaining how she cared for her mother after she died. diagnosed with cancer.

“That means trying to cook what they want to eat, what they can eat,” Harris said. “It means choosing clothes for them that are soft enough so that it doesn’t irritate their skin. It means trying to come up with something funny to make them laugh. And it’s about the dignity of that individual. It’s about the independence of that individual.”

She went on to talk about how expensive it is for families to send their loved ones to residential care centers or hire someone for home care.
