Robert Fripp and Toyah cover David Bowie’s ‘Scary Monsters’

Robert Fripp And Toyah Willcox offered a Halloween edition of their “Sunday Lunch” series this weekend. The video shows the married couple performing a cover of the David Bowie classic “Scary monsters (and super creeps).”

The King Crimson guitarist and the new wave singer have mostly been posting archival episodes of “Sunday Lunch” in recent months, but Bowie’s cover is a brand new performance. In the video, both Fripp and Toyah wear makeup inspired by the Scary monsters album cover, with Toyah looking uncannily like Bowie.

Aside from the makeup, Toyah wears a black blazer with nothing underneath, singing the 1980 song while Fripp plays guitar. The video ends with Robert saying in a creepy voice, “Welcome to Toyah and Robert’s creepy ‘Sunday Lunch,'” with Toyah playfully kissing the prog rock pioneer on the side of his head.

There are few new editions of the “Sunday Lunch” series these days, but Toyah and Robert have fun covers of The Stooges’ ‘Search and Destroy’ blink-182s “Damn,” Beastie boys “(You have to) fight for your right (to party),” and KISS’ “Lick it up,” among other songs, over the past year.

Toyah and Robert will play a short series of “Christmas Party” UK shows in December tickets available here.

In the meantime, Fripp has given his blessing to the current North American “BEAT” tourfeaturing classic King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin playing alongside guitar virtuoso Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey as they reinterpret three of Crimson’s ’80s albums: Discipline, BeatAnd Three of a perfect pair. Tickets for that outing are available here.
