Sara Sidner slams Scott Jennings over racist Trump rally jokes

CNN anchor Sara Sidner pushed back on the pro-Trump analyst Scott Jennings when he defended the former president Donald Trump about racist jokes told at his rally at Madison Square Garden.

Trump gets a lot of attention for the antics at his Madison Square Garden collectionwhat his critics are compared Unpleasant an infamous one 1939 American Nazi rally before it even started.

Particularly comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s The joke that Puerto Rico is a “floating pile of trash” was essentially repeated by cable news after the rally — so much so that the Trump campaign tried to distance himself itself from the comment.

But there were even more explosive and scandalous moments – from Hinchcliffe and other speakers.

On Monday edition by CNN News CentralJennings tried to minimize the damage by suggesting the comic was a lone anomaly, but Sidner ticked off a litany of other speakers, including Trump, who crossed lines.

Democratic strategist Chuck Rocha even going so far as to say the comments “could cost Trump the election”:

SARA SIDNER: Scott, why would the campaign invite this man, known for his racist jokes in the past, to speak?

SCOTT JENNINGS: Yeah. Don’t know. It’s a stupid idea and really stupid. I mean, there’s no other way to characterize it.

I was happy to see that even before Trump took the stage last night, the campaign had a statement distancing itself from this.

It was a very, very, very, very, very stupid idea. And it distracts from, you know, what Trump’s overall closing message has been: If you look at what he’s saying and look at his paid ads, which they released on Sunday, it’s really mostly about the economy and about immigration and about how we can have a more optimistic future in America.

So it’s a situation where the campaign clearly had a plan to focus the message on the two things that are working and on a brighter future. And this comedian that I had never heard of until yesterday showed up and caused some trouble. So really stupid.

SARA SIDNER: But Scott and Chuck, it wasn’t just this comedian. You said a lot of other things there, where businessman Grant Cardone compared Harris to a prostitute and said she had pimps, and another speaker called her the devil. Another speaker called her the antichrist.

Trump also said the other side is smart and mean. They are indeed the enemy from within.

Chuck, will this message change anyone’s mind about who to vote for?

CHUCK ROCHA: Look, I’ve been doing this for a long time and normally everyone says everything is already ingrained. Do you know what you get? Chuck, you Democrats can’t take a joke.

I think last night could have cost him this election. And let me tell you why. I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I don’t get paid to look pretty on TV. I get paid to win elections.

And what that meant last night was that Puerto Ricans are very proud people. There are 600,000 in Pennsylvania. Will this mean they all run for Kamala Harris? No, but I’ll tell you what: last night there was a group of Latinos who got together and said enough is enough.

And this morning, when Puerto Ricans woke up in Pennsylvania, this video was on their cell phones because Democratic operatives, including me, Nuestro PAC and a number of other people said enough as it was baked in. Let’s remind people how they really feel about our community.

And when you have that many Puerto Ricans, not just in Pennsylvania, but in four marginal congressional districts in New York, I think this could really hurt him.
