Semi crash leads to closure at Parley’s Canyon

PARLEY’S CANYON, Utah – A semi crash closed the westbound lanes of I-80 Sunday morning, forcing motorists to turn back.

Utah Highway Patrol tells FOX 13 News a westbound semi-truck left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier around 7:30 a.m. The truck then overturned and caught fire, prompting crews from Unified Fire and other agencies to respond, both to extinguish the flames and contain fuel leakage.

There were two people in the semi. They were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time of reporting, the westbound lanes are closed. Drivers are being diverted to alternate routes and UDOT is advising that semi-trucks will not be allowed through Emigration Canyon.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
