Bengaluru: Riding a bus on the city roads and navigating through heavy traffic is already a stressful affair. To add to this misery, bus staff are also becoming victims road rage incidents. They suspect the attackers were furious because the bus was blocking their path on the narrow road. The bus staff said the duo was drunk. According to the complaint filed by the driver, Gagan MV, 27, the incident took place around 5.30 pm.
Gagan and conductor Shivakumar work at Depot 30. They were assigned to drive the bus on route number 290E/26, from Yelahanka to Shivajinagar. When the vehicle stopped at the Canara Bank bus stop on Tannery Road, the two persons disembarked from their scooter and boarded the bus. They started being verbally and physically abusive raid Gagan. They turned his hand and hit him in the face.
The conductor tried to intervene, but was dragged outside and forced to stand in front of the bus. The attackers then hit him in the face, neck and waist before he escaped. The entire incident was recorded by the CCTV camera installed in the bus.
Line control officers present on Tannery Road heard of the incident and took the driver and conductor to Bowring Hospital. Although neither suffered bleeding injuries, the conductor suffered an injury to his nose. The two undergo treatment.
An MLC (Medico-Legal Case) report was sent to the police. According to BMTC, the vehicle’s CCTV footage is currently being examined to gather more information.
According to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the duo was drunk and angry because the driver honked at them when they did not give way to the bus. “A month ago, a man who had been fired from a private company stabbed a conductor for telling him not to stand on the running board. Recently, someone hit the staff with a stone. I am going to write to the police commissioner to take action against these people.” attacking government employees, including BMTC personnel, and putting them in jail.
