Officials rescue injured hiker in Madison County

The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department, along with Ruby Valley Search and Rescue and Life Flight Network, rescued an injured hunter just south of Melrose Saturday evening.

According to the fire department, officials received a call from the person hunting on a mountain in Madison County around 9:30 p.m.

The individual was unable to descend the mountain after sustaining an injury.

A Life Flight helicopter was called and located the person from the air.

Officials in the helicopter then escorted ground crews to the area before finding a safe landing zone.

Ground crews were able to find the fighter and took the person to the landing zone by ambulance.

From there, the fighter was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

Officials are urging residents to know what area you are recreating in, inform someone where you are going and have a phone or GPS with you to ask for help with your coordinates if necessary.
