Man Breaks Into Vehicle Shot By Lenoir County Homeowner

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Authorities say a man accused of breaking into a vehicle in Lenoir County was shot by the homeowner.

According to Public Information Officer Bryan Hanks, it happened a few minutes before midnight at the home on Will Baker Road.

He says 39-year-old Ryan Burd was discovered on the side of the street with a gunshot wound by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies who responded to the call.

Hanks says they immediately began administering first aid and requested additional resources to save the man’s life.

He says Burd was later flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he remains in serious condition.

The shooting is under investigation by the LCSO and the findings will be turned over to the district attorney’s office for review.
