National law enforcement group names two deputies as Officers of the Month: Macomb Daily

Two Macomb County sheriff’s deputies have been honored for their roles in a dramatic rescue involving a driver experiencing a medical emergency.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) said Deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross have been named the organization’s Officers of the Month for September 2024.

The pair were selected for their actions when they performed a life-saving act along a busy stretch of Gratiot Avenue to help a driver who was experiencing a medical emergency.

“These officers are heroes, quick on their feet to help someone in need, risking their own safety to demonstrate an act of courage that we are proud to recognize,” said William Alexander, CEO of National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. .

The Washington, D.C.-based organization honors the 23,785 U.S. law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

On September 12, Miron and Gross were on patrol when they received reports that a GMC Sierra truck was driving erratically on Gratiot and that the motorist appeared to be in a state of intoxication.

Gross was able to pull his cruiser alongside the other driver, while Miron climbed into the other driver’s vehicle through the open driver’s window of the cruiser and brought the vehicle to a safe stop.

The officers then provided the 63-year-old driver with medical care.

Police patrol vehicle cameras and traffic cameras captured the daring incident on video.

The Officer of the Month Award program is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and recognizes federal, state and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.
