A woman was killed in a freak accident at a Kansas airport after she backed into an active airplane propeller while taking photos.

On Saturday, October 26, just before 3 p.m., Sedgwick County dispatch received a report of an accident at Cook Airfield in Derby, Kansas. KAKE News first reported this.

Derby is a city in Sedgwick County and is Wichita’s largest suburb.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman, believed to be in her 30s, who had been seriously injured while taking photos of people getting on and off planes when she backed into an active plane propeller, KAKE reported.

The woman was taken to a local hospital extremely critical conditionreports KAKE, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The authorities are currently investigate the incident.

According to a GoFundMe page, the victim was identified as 37-year-old Amanda Gallagher.

“Amanda Gallagher was kind, adventurous, creative and beautiful inside and out. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed,” a statement on the page said.

The Cook Airfield extended their condolences to the family and friends of Amanda Gallagher, who died following an accident at the airfield on Saturday afternoon. (Cook airport – K50)

“On October 26, Amanda passed away in a very sad accident while doing what she loved: skydiving and taking photos!” the statement continued. “As her family copes with this tragic accident, they could use your help to cover funeral costs. Please consider supporting them and also keeping them all in your prayers.”

Cook Airfield posted a statement on Facebook expressing their condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the young lady who died yesterday following a tragic aircraft propeller accident at Cook Airfield. I wasn’t there when it happened, so I’m not going to speculate on what could or should have happened. It happened differently. Please keep her family, her friends and her Air Capital Drop Zone family in your prayers and thoughts,” the statement said.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for a statement but did not immediately receive a response.
