Ex-boyfriend charged with assault | News, sports, jobs

Marco Garrett, 62 of 1506 Sutton Ave., was arrested on charges of illegally entering an ex-girlfriend’s home in the 2500 block of West Fourth Street on Aug. 27 about 11:30 p.m. and assaulting the woman, city police alleged in a statement. Garrett slipped into the house through an unlocked side door, walked upstairs to the woman’s bedroom and “began hitting her in the face and head several times, causing swelling while she was talking to her current boyfriend on her cell phone,” the court document alleged. Garrett then jumped on the woman and forcibly took her cell phone from her, police said. The couple had separated in January, police were told. Garrett is charged with burglary, misdemeanor trespassing, simple assault, theft and intimidation. He recently waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey and remains free on $75,000 bail.
