Police officers are investigating three separate cases of suicide reported in Nairobi, Makueni and Homa Bay counties.

In the first incident, the body of a 20-year-old man, identified as Leonard Onyango, was discovered in his home Nairobi’s Mathatre North area after a suspected suicide.

According to police officers who arrived on the scene, Onyango died by hanging himself from the window grille of his rented house with a belt around his neck.

Officers from Ruaraka Police Station secured the scene and documented it for further analysis.

No suicide note has been found, police said.

Onyango’s body was taken to the city mortuary for safekeeping until an autopsy could be performed.

In the second incident, a 62-year-old man identified as Titus Kitaka was found hanging from a tree with a sisal rope tied around his neck at his home in Makueni on Sunday.

Officers from Mbumbuni Police Station visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

“The body showed no visible injuries,” police said.

Forensic teams examined the scene and the body was taken to Tawa Funeral Home for post-mortem examination.

The relevant authorities have indicated that there will be a follow-up report on the incident.

Elsewhere in Homa Bay, a 57-year-old man died by suspected suicide after being found hanging from one of the rafters of his house with a sisal rope around his neck.

Police officers identified the man as John Ngong’o, a resident of Shauri Yako Estate.

Officers from Homa Bay Police Station visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

No suicide note was found during the incident, police said.

The body of the deceased was transferred to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

Officers from the Homa Bay Police Station say the case will remain open until more details are gathered.

The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of recognizing early warning signs of suicidal ideation.

This may include withdrawal from social activities, drastic changes in behavior and expressions of hopelessness advocates preventive measures.

These include open communication, seeking professional help, promoting resilience, fostering social connections that can buffer against isolation, and familiarizing families with mental health resources available at the community level.
