Bears WR discusses teammate’s stupid play on Hail Mary

Chicago Bears wideout DJ Moore made his weekly appearance on the Mully & Haugh show on Monday.

One of the topics he discussed was teammate Tyrique Stevenson’s stupid actions before and during the Washington Commanders. game-winning Hail Mary in Sunday’s 18-15 loss to Chicago.

The cornerback spent the moments leading up to the snap (and the first few seconds of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ scrambling) taunting Washington fans in the crowd on the other side of the field. Stevenson then sprinted over after realizing the play had started, reached the center of the action, jumped and tapped the ball into the air before it fell into the hands of wideout Noah Brown in the end zone.

The second-year professional apologized for his actions on Sunday evening.

Moore — one of the Bears’ captains — said he and the other captains will discuss Stevenson’s situation in the near future.

He said he did not see Stevenson’s actions as the play unfolded, but saw it “exactly as everyone else has seen it (on social media).”

“The captains were talking about how we really need to address that. I saw him bring up something that he regretted, but we still have to address it as a leadership group for the team,” Moore said. “I don’t know (what the punishment will be), that’s not for us to do. … But we can discuss it as captains, and upstairs will have to do what they’re going to do.”

The 2018 first-round pick added that it’s a “lesson we’ve definitely learned” for Stevenson, but “he won’t do that again.”

“But when you put him on the bench, it’s like that one play – it’s a big play – but that one play doesn’t define him as a player,” Moore said.
