Man shot while trying to stop people from breaking into cars

A man has been seriously injured after being shot in the legs while trying to stop people from breaking into vehicles in Porirua.

The incident took place in Tītahi Bay on Monday evening and police are appealing for information.

In a statement, police said officers were called to an address on Dimock Street at around 10.20pm, with initial investigations suggesting “the man was shot after disturbing two people who were trying to break into cars on the street”.

He was taken to hospital in serious condition.
