Girl, 11, played dead in family massacre, police say carried out by teenager

The 11 year old survivor of a Family massacre in Washington state earlier in October, she reportedly played dead when her teenage brother, who is now charged in the case, allegedly committed the attack in their home.

Five members of the family, including parents Mark Humiston, 43, and Sarah Humiston, 42were found shot to death in their home in Fall City, Washington, early on the morning of Oct. 21, the King County Sheriff’s Office previously said.

The family’s 11-year-old daughter survived the attack and later claimed that police checked on her The 15-year-old brother carried out the shooting.

The suspect, who has not been publicly named due to his age, has been charged five charges of aggravated murder and one count of attempted murder, according to King County court records and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, The Associated Press, KIRO news And COW previously reported.

Authorities received multiple 911 calls early on the morning of October 21, police previously reported a possible suicide, and responding officers found the bodies inside the home.

Associated Press, KOUW and KIRO News report that the King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the murdered children as Katheryn Humiston, 9, Joshua Humiston, 9, and Benjamin Humiston, 13.

The 11-year-old girl who survived claimed to investigators that she played dead to survive the attack. Associated Press, KING 5 and NBC News reported, citing unspecified court documents and King County investigators.

She said she heard screaming outside her room before the suspect, the eldest of the siblings, allegedly came in and shot her on her bunk bed, according to the documents, according to KOUW.

She allegedly saw the bodies of her family members in the hallway outside her room before fleeing the home through a “fire window,” according to charging documents.

She fled to a neighbor’s house and reported what happened to authorities, according to investigators’ accounts cited by KING 5 and The Seattle Times.

In the meantime, the 15-year-old suspect allegedly called 911 and claimed that his 13-year-old brother had shot the family members and died by suicide, according to unspecified court documents cited by The Seattle Timesreport KUOW and KIRO News.

The boy’s scheduled arraignment on Friday did not take place KIRO 7. His lawyer has previously claimed he has no history of violence.
