Man driving 106 MPH in Vernon falsely tells trooper’s family member is dying

VERNON, Conn. (WFSB) – State Police arrested an Enfield man Sunday evening for driving 106 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone.

State Police say they received multiple 911 calls Sunday evening reporting a Mercedes SUV driving erratically on I-84 westbound near Exit 64 in Vernon.

A trooper patrolling the area clocked the vehicle’s speed at 105 mph. The posted speed limit is 65 mph.

When he was stopped, the driver, 50-year-old Christopher R. Carter, claimed an immediate family member was dying in the hospital.

The trooper determined this was not true and Carter was arrested.

He was charged with reckless driving and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Carter was released on a $1,000 bond.
