Northeast Iowa Council announces first female Eagle Scout

MANCHESTER, Iowa (KCRG) – Erin Mensen of Troop 137 in Manchester is the Northeast Iowa Council Scouting America’s first female Eagle Scout.

Erin Mensen joins her brother, who also earned the rank earlier this year. Humans and the rest of the Eagle Scout Class of 2024 will be honored in February 2025.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest honor in Scouting. People’s Eagle Scout project included improving the landscaping around the Masonville Fire Department. She led efforts to build landscaping blocks, spread river rocks and plant hostas.

KCRG spoke to People in 2019 about joining Scouts BSA. She told TV9 at the time that she decided to participate because she had seen her brothers go through the program.

“It sounded really fun and hearing it from my brothers, it just sounded so exciting,” People said.
