Deceased couple identified in Newfane death investigation

NEWFANE, Vt. (myCV) – The two people found dead in a Newfane home on Friday have been identified and their autopsies have been completed.

The Burlington Chief Medical Examiner’s Office identified Helen Prescott, 88, and Blake Prescott, 91. Helen died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, and Blake died similarly after being shot once in the chest. While Helen’s cause of death was ruled a homicide, Blake’s was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner.

Family members reported the incident to police Friday after finding the couple dead in their home on South Wardsboro Road. Investigators initially thought this was an isolated event and that everyone involved was “accounted for.”

The Prescott family told police that Blake and Helen “shared a lifetime of love and devotion to each other.”

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
