Man found guilty of kidnapping and manslaughter in shooting incident involving Oak Run officer

Christopher Maddox was convicted on October 25 after a jury trial of charges related to the July 2023 officer-involved shooting.

The charges stem from July 2023 when Maddox threatened neighbors with a gun, used the gun to shoot his roommate and then held his 58-year-old mother, his 72-year-old great-uncle and his 40-year-old roommate. , and the roommate’s 40-year-old girlfriend against their will. A deputy and a sergeant from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrived on scene, and both discharged their firearms, striking Maddox, the Officer-Involved Critical Incident Response Team (OICIRT) said.

The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office (SCDA) said Maddox was convicted Friday of attempted voluntary manslaughter, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, kidnapping, robbery, five counts of assault with a firearm, three counts of false imprisonment by assault, felon in possession of a firearm and criminal in possession of ammunition.
