Plans for a regional business park in Kiev are stalled after the vote failed

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – A months-long push for a proposed regional business park in Georgetown has come to a screeching halt after the City Council approved an agreement to participate in the project Monday night.

The Georgetown City Council rejected the proposal Monday night 6-2.

It was the third time in two weeks that council had met to discuss the proposed Triple Crown Regional Business Park.

The park would be located at McClelland Circle in Georgetown.

A spokesperson for the regional group confirmed to WKYT that there is no path forward for this project:

The regional group worked for more than a year to collaborate and secure more than $6 million in state funds and more in federal dollars for a regional business park that would have created 1,400 direct jobs and generated significant tax revenue. While there was ultimately not enough support from the respective legislative bodies to move the project forward, the partners would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many community members, local officials and business leaders who stood behind the initiative.”

The spokesperson says these governments will lose out on a lot of state and federal support by rejecting the park, but the support simply wasn’t there.
