Rise Above brings hope and celebration to Pike County

The Community Action Committee of Pike County’s (CAC) Workforce & Business Development (W&B) Program’s Transitions Program hosted Rise Above: An Event Celebrating Recovery in Pike County on Wednesday, October 9, at the Pike County Fairgrounds, bringing together approximately 200 participants from Pike. and surrounding counties in a vibrant celebration of recovery.

The event included a range of activities, with guest speakers delivering both informative and inspiring messages. Dr. Christine McKain, medical director of Valley View Health Center, opened the proceedings by highlighting efforts to improve recovery options in the region. Dr. Terry Johnson, Ohio Senator for District 14, then discussed holistic approaches to achieving and maintaining sobriety.

Personal testimonies from Heather Osborne and Zach Cornette powerfully illustrated their struggles with substance use disorders (SUD), which deeply resonated with attendees and reminded everyone of the resilience and determination it takes to overcome substance use disorder.

This gathering welcomed community members of all ages and encouraged a spirit of unity and support in the face of adversity. The atmosphere was enhanced by the delicious catering from Fat Dave’s Catering, making the evening unforgettable.

In addition, representatives from several partner organizations were on hand to provide information on available support services, reinforcing a collective commitment to helping individuals and families affected by addiction. Their presence exemplified the community’s commitment to recovery.

The Rise Above Recovery event transcends mere celebration; it served as a powerful affirmation of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Participants celebrated journeys of recovery, built connections and encouraged those still struggling to seek help.

The W&B Program Team would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to this important event. Together, we will help our community rise above the challenges of SUD and pave the way for a better future for all.
