World Cup winner Matthew Wade announces international retirement; ready for a coaching role with Australia

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade announced his international retirement on Tuesday (October 29) after falling out of favor with the national team. Wade, a member of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup-winning squad, will now join the national team as a coach in next month’s T20I series with Pakistan. Wade retires after representing the Aussies in more than 200 international matches.

Wade announces retirement

“I was fully aware that my international days were probably over at the end of the last T20 World Cup. My international retirement and coaching has been an ongoing conversation with George (Bailey) and Andrew (McDonald) over the last six months, said in his farewell speech.

“Coaching has been on my radar for the past few years and fortunately some great opportunities have come my way, for which I am very grateful and excited,” Wade added.
