Police have not yet interrogated jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, a suspect in the murder of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who was killed on October 9, despite Gurpreet being killed at his request. Even three weeks after the crime, the police cannot trace the perpetrators.

Gurpreet, a member of the organization Waris Punjab De, was shot dead by four assailants on bicycles while he was returning from Gurdwara.

On October 18, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had alleged that Gurpreet was killed on Amritpal’s orders. Police also claimed that terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla emerged as the mastermind.

A four-member SIT, led by Faridkot SP (Investigation) Jasmeet Singh, is investigating the murder case. Three members of the Arsh Dalla gang – Bilaal Ahmed, Guramardeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh – who carried out the reconnaissance were arrested and interrogated. They were sent to court on Saturday. Despite interrogations, the SIT has failed to identify the shooters.

Faridkot Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain said police have received fresh clues about the whereabouts of the gunmen and they would be arrested soon. “We will interrogate Amritpal soon,” she added.

Amritpal is lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
