Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was unhappy with the way cornerback Trevon Diggs represented the organization after Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

“I think we have to be better at times like that. I always talk about staying on the high road,” McCarthy told ESPN. Todd Sagittarius. “That’s part of our responsibility in this industry. But I’m not ignorant or naive about the fact that this generation is part of the world they live in, the world of social media. You have to deal with that. That’s part of being a professional athlete and that’s part of representing this organization well.”

Diggs confronted a reporter after the game with a social media post:

The social media post wondered what Diggs did on a play in which the 49ers’ George Kittle beat the defense down the sideline and just missed a touchdown:

“Did you take that from there?” Diggs said (h/t Archer). “You took that from that whole part? You don’t know football. You can’t do anything I do. You can’t go out there and do nothing. Stay in your lane, buddy. Stop ‘try me, dog.’

For his part, Diggs addressed the situation during an appearance on The Edge with Micah Parsons:

“He tried to use my name for snitches,” Diggs said. “… I went up to him and just said how I felt. It felt like it was a lot of emotions. Just losing, coming out fresh from the game after the loss. … I just let my emotions run wild. best from me.”

The cornerback also said he believed he played well in the loss and was unhappy with the entire situation and reaction.

He finished with five tackles and a pass defended.

There is certainly a lot of frustration in Dallas right now as the NFC East team has lost two straight and is just 3-4 on the season. Considering it’s coming off three straight playoff appearances and had high expectations coming into the campaign, being in this position is certainly not what anyone imagined.

Things don’t get much easier for the Cowboys as their next four games are against playoff position teams of the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and Washington Commanders.

If they don’t play better in that stretch, the playoffs could be out of the question heading into the final portion of the year.
