TRAFFIC ALERT | Hwy. 301 South between I-16 and Hwy. 46 closed due to fire

UPDATE 5:20 PM: Hwy. 301 is NOW OPEN AGAIN.

UPDATE 4:00 PM: As of 4 p.m., firefighters hope to have Hwy. 301 reopened at 6 p.m. GC is monitoring this fire and will notify you as soon as the roads are open again. Keep checking back for updates.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Officers have temporarily closed the highway. 301 on Monday, October 28, 2024 around 1:30 PM just north of I-16 so firefighters can battle the fire at All Green Services at 4795 Hwy. 301 South. GADOT and Bulloch County Sheriff Officers have diverted traffic at I-16 and 301 South and Hwy. 46 and 301.

Motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route for the next few hours. Grice Connect is following this story and will provide updates when the road is open.

Bulloch County and Statesboro Fire Departments responded to a fire at Allgreen Services, located at 4795 US-301 South, on Monday, October 28 around 1 p.m. When the first units arrived on scene, they found a large pile of uncontrolled waste that had been moved into a building.

They requested additional fire trucks and personnel on site. Fire officials requested that Bulloch County sheriff’s deputies respond to the scene to close the highway. 301 south to allow water supply to the fire.

Firefighters battled a similar fire at All Green May last year. During that fire, they closed the highway for almost four hours.

The City of Statesboro extended the water supply from the city via Hwy. 301 to deliver water to the Bruce Yawn Industrial Park. In doing so, they only installed fire hydrants on the east side of Hwy. 301.

When a major fire breaks out on the west side of the road, they are required to close the road and run fire hoses across the road to supply the fire trucks.

There are no reports of injuries.
