Lori Vallow Daybell is being tried in Arizona for the death of her former husband

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Lori Vallow Daybellthe so-called “Doomsday Mother,” is serving three consecutive life sentences for her role in the deaths of two of her children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan, and her then-boyfriend’s wife, Tammy Daybell.

The Vallow Daybell trial took place in Idaho, but the next Vallow Daybell trial will take place Arizona for conspiring to murder her fourth husband, Charles Vallow.

In 2019, Charles was shot and killed by Lori’s late brother Alex, who claimed self-defense. Larry Woodcock, Charles’ brother-in-law, believes it was murder.

‘Everything Lori does is a lie. Now the lie is, ‘It wasn’t me, it was Tylee,'” Woodcock said.

Charles was the brother of Woodcock’s wife Kay. She does not speak publicly because she will be a witness in the trial.

“The sentencing in Arizona is important to Kay and me,” said Larry Woodcock. “The sentencing is closure that Charles deserves. Charles is very well known in this city. Charles has a lot of friends in this town.”

Vallow Daybell has requested a hearing to see if she is mentally competent to stand trial, meaning she can assist her attorney in her own defense. She is also asking to represent herself in Arizona.

“Lori knows how to game the system. She is infamous for that. I think she’s going to try the same thing here,” Woodcock said.

The Arizona judge is expected to wait for the results of the mental evaluation before deciding whether Vallow Daybell will be allowed to represent himself. Her trial was expected to take place on February 27, 2025, but that is now uncertain.

In addition to a murder charge in her husband’s death, Vallow Daybell also faces an attempted murder charge related to shots fired at her niece’s husband.
