Pune-Solapur highway accident: Two people killed, 64 injured in major ST bus collision – India News

Two people were killed and 64 others injured when two Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses collided on the Pune-Solapur Highway in Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The tragic incident took place near Varvand village in Pune district at 5 pm on Monday.

How did the accident happen?

According to Police Inspector Narayan Deskhmukh, a Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus heading towards Pune collided with another ST bus heading towards Solapur. The unfortunate incident took place when a two-wheeler unexpectedly crossed a Pune-bound bus. The driver then tried to change the direction of the bus to avoid the two-wheeler but instead it jumped the divider and collided with the bus coming from a different direction.

According to the latest report, the two buses carried more than 110 passengers and caused major casualties and serious damage.

Passengers were taken to hospitals

A police officer told The Indian Express that based on preliminary investigation, the driver tried to avoid the collision with the two-wheeler but this resulted in the bus ending up in the main traffic. Police also confirmed the death on the spot of the two passengers and 64 other passengers were injured in the deadly incident. All injured passengers were quickly transferred to nearby hospitals. To understand the cause of the incident in detail, an investigation has been initiated and a case has also been registered. According to the information shared by the Yavat Police Station, emergency services were provided quickly as more than ten ambulances helped transfer 66 injured passengers to five nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention.
