Long Island murder investigated at Hamptons resort – NBC New York

Authorities are investigating the apparent murder of a woman whose body was found in a guest room a day ago at a luxury resort and spa in the Hamptons, according to police.

Officers from the Southampton Town Police Department responded to the Shou Sugi Ban House on Montauk Highway in Watermill early Monday afternoon after the death was reported. Officials say an employee discovered the woman’s body.

The police say it has been established that she was the victim of violence, but do not provide further details.

The victim’s name and age were not immediately released. Officials said there would be a continued police presence in and around the wellness center as the investigation continues.

Shou Sugi Ban House describes itself as “a private retreat and gated grounds surrounded by evergreen trees and lush grass.” There are 13 rooms spread across three acres in the luxury retreat, along with “self-contained luxury residences for short-term rentals.” It offers amenities such as programs in yoga, meditation, fitness, nutrition, skin care, hydrotherapy, as well as massages and a culinary program “in a holistic, educational setting.”

The place costs about $5,000 per night.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with information about the death is asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 631-852-6396.
