Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire addressed kicker Reese Burkhardt’s celebration, unveiling a supportive message from former President Donald Trump on Saturday.

Burkhardt and the Red Raiders pulled off a nifty field goal fake against TCU. Burkhardt ran for a touchdown. He then revealed a message under his sweater which read: “Trump 24! MAGA.”

McGuire told reporters he didn’t know what was under Burkhardt’s jersey until after the game.

“We addressed it. We will continue to tackle it. We are addressing it internally,” he said via the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. “You know, it’s always one of the things when you’re dealing with young adults, the real young adults, I think, the choices that we make and when we make them and when you share them.

“I always think football, basketball and sports like that are the most important; it’s a team sport. You always want to make sure you put your team in the best situation. And there are places where you can express your opinion and you can Know you, I don’t think that’s necessarily a time or place.

“As far as he’s concerned, we’re going to deal with it. We dealt with it on Saturday and we’ll continue to talk things through and find the best solution and keep it in house.”

McGuire did not want to reveal who he voted for, according to the newspaper, but he encouraged others to vote.

Burkhardt’s MAGA message was the latest example of pro-Trump support in sports this weekend.
