Land dispute sparks protests in Karnataka as farmers face Waqf ownership claims

In Vijayapura in Karnataka, a recent Waqf land ownership dispute has left around 41 farmers shaken and uncertain about their future. The local tehsildar informed them that their land is now under the jurisdiction of the Waqf Board. Farmers, who were already worried about similar cases in Kerala and Telangana, expressed fears that they would lose their livelihood. Despite the tense situation, the district deputy commissioner clarified in a press release that no private lands have been officially transferred to the Waqf board, reassuring farmers that they still have rights over their properties. The commissioner urged those involved to produce any proof of ownership for verification. On the other hand, the Waqf board defended its actions, claiming that it only pursues properties it considers rightfully theirs. The issue has sparked protests among farmers determined to fight for their land, creating an unstable atmosphere as they struggle to protect their agricultural future.
